August 1, 2022
The Beer Museum celebrates the International Beer Day with free visits to the museum, beer bread and a very special Happy Hour
Celebrated on the first Friday of August, the date was created in 2007 in California, and is marked in over 50 countries. Portugal is no exception.
August 5th is the day of the most consumed alcoholic drink in the world and the Beer Museum, a restaurant that has a museum presenting the history of beer for over 7000 years, has a beer programme for all tastes.
Free admission to the Museum
On International Beer Day, the Beer Museum invites visitors to learn about the history of beer in Portugal and Europe. Start your journey in a European monastic cellar, where beer was produced by monks who brewed it to feed themselves and keep their bodies warm during the hours when fasting was imposed, making monastic cellars the true cradle of brewing innovation. From the monastic cellars to the advent of the Industrial Revolution, the tour continues through the scientific and technological development of the 18th and 19th centuries, which catapulted the brewing and consumption of beer across borders, ending with an ode to Portuguese craft beer. Admission is free on this day and guided tours take place every half hour, between 12 pm and 9 pm.
The Bread Museum creates an exclusive bread recipe for the Beer Museum
From the coast to the interior of the country, the Bread Museum and the Beer Museum are united for a common celebration. Specially developed by the Bread Museum, in Seia, for the Beer Museum, in Lisbon, and only on the 5th August, it will be possible to taste the integral handmade beer bread in all the meals served at the Beer Museum and which will also be on sale at the Bread Museum’s grocery store.
Life is an invitation, but without ceremony
This is the motto of the latest Sagres beer campaign, which on 5th August will be at the Beer Museum toasting customers with the informality – and freshness! – that a beer requires, in a cup exclusive to the Museum and signed by Júlio Pomar. Throughout the day, Sagres will invite you to savour life around the table and among friends, with a surprise effect and a guaranteed toast!
