Brasileira do Chiado presents a new menu with a summer flavour, by the hand of
Chef Nuno Carreira

Celebrating the longer days and hosting visitors with the sun under the incredible light of Lisbon, the new menu of A Brasileira offers options inspired by our gastronomic tradition, wrapped in poetry and history

The preamble, served in the charming interior of the Café or in the company of Fernando Pessoa on the terrace, is made up of very Portuguese starters such as Codfish fritters and Lime Mayonnaise, Sirloin “Pica-Pau” or Prawns with Garlic and Coriander, which now join the mythical A Brasileira croquette with Mustard Sauce.

Then, the lightness of the salads: Caprese, Caesar, Smoked Salmon and Goat Cheese or the supreme Tuna Tataki with Orange and Avocado make way for an apotheosis of traditional cuisine based on fresh and seasonal ingredients. The fish dishes include the Codfish Confit with crunchy corn bread, the Sea bass fillet and Linguini Nero with prawns. The meat dishes include the PDO Lamb Chops and the Black Pork “Lagartinhos” with Asparagus, and, of course, the timeless classic A Brasileira Steak with Coffee Sauce. The creamy Rice and the Pasta with Tomato Sauce and Parmesan Cheese are the vegetarian options on the new menu.

To close the show and asking for an encore in the unavoidable company of a “bica”, Chef Nuno Carreira proposes a journey through the acidulous flavour of Serra da Estrela PDO Cheese in an improbable – and delicious! – marriage with the Brasileira’s Sweet Toast. The traditional Créme Brulée, the “Abade Priscos” Pudding and the Sweet Rice pudding or, without further ado because summer will soon be here, the Caramelized Pear with vanilla ice-cream are also some of the suggestions.

About A Brasileira do Chiado

Opened on November 19, 1905, in Chiado, A Brasileira was created by Adriano Telles, a former Portuguese immigrant in Brazil. With the freedom achieved in the period following the implantation of the republic in 1910, and due to its privileged location, A Brasileira do Chiado became one of the most popular cafés in Lisbon at the time and was the setting for countless intellectual, artistic and literary gatherings. Renowned writers and artists like Fernando Pessoa and Almada Negreiros found in A Brasileira do Chiado the inspiration for paradoxical concepts and ideas. It was in A Brasileira do Chiado that the expression “bica” was created, which would be the abbreviation for “drink this with sugar” (in Portuguese “beba isto com açúcar”), an incentive to make coffee (a novelty at that time), more pleasant for customers, while creating them a habit and marking a ritual.

A Brasileira do Chiado has kept its identity intact, both due to the specificity of its decoration and the symbolism it represents as it is linked to intellectual circles. Classified as a building of public interest since 1997, it is today one of the oldest and one of only three cafés in Lisbon that have remained open throughout the 20th century. A Brasileira do Chiado has always been a truly iconic spot of the city of Lisbon, earning its place among the most emblematic places in Chiado, as one of the most visited and photographed in the entire city.

A Brasileira do Chiado is a brand of the Value of Time Group.
