The Christmas magic returns to the
Bread Museum

Snow has arrived in Serra da Estrela Mountain and with it french toasts, a fireplace, and an amazing smell in the air… it’s the magical world of bread!

Located in Seia, in Serra da Estrela Mountain, the Bread Museum is one of the most important museological references in Portugal and the largest complex dedicated to the subject in the world. In its four thematic rooms, a library bar, a traditional grocery store, and a restaurant, the Museum offers a multi-sensory experience exploring the most diverse artistic, ethnographic, historical, political, social, and religious aspects of bread. This season, in addition to all this, the Bread Museum is transformed into an enchanted place with Christmas lights, where the magic of the world of the Hermians, the inhabitants of Serra da Estrela Mountain, invites you to learn about the Bread cycle in a fun, dynamic and educational way.

A program for the whole family

A place that welcomes everyone with open arms. The Bread Museum, which has prepared activities in December to get hands-on and to take home a souvenir made of bread dough, with an accessible program for all ages to live the magic of Christmas, enchanted by the snow that covers Serra da Estrela these days. In addition to visiting the museum to relive memories in art and objects connected to the making of bread (for the elderly) or to learn, by playing, how bread is made from the moment the cereal is planted until we find it in the bakery (for the youngsters), visitors are invited to embark on a time capsule, with the smell of freshly baked warm bread and a journey that they can all enjoy for free on the museum’s themed carousel. Have lunch at the museum’s Cenae restaurant and, at the end of the visit, stop by the grocery store and lose yourself in the myriad of delicious breads to take home: from wheat, oat, chocolate, corn, rye bread, it will be hard to choose!
